Best Golf Mat for Mevo Plus: Top 3 Recommended

Golf launch monitors and golf simulators have come a long way in the past several decades.

What was once just a dream for the majority of people have now become a reality for most.

Many golfers live in an area where there is some sort of off season.  This could last from 1-5 months for some.  The opportunity to play golf on a course is reduced by the weather and the shorter amount of daylight that typically takes place in the winter months.

Golfers have two options:

  • Put the clubs away and don’t do anything
  • Set up some form of hitting space at their house

More and more golfers are going with the second option and are finding a way to work on their game and with good reason.  Plenty of research has been completed to show that it takes thousands of hours, sometimes up to 10,000 hours to master a skill.

Is A Golf Simulator Worth it? Read more here!

With golf being one of the most difficult games around, the ability and opportunity to practice in the winter and receive some incredible feedback is a game changer.

Whether you are going full out simulator mode or simply going to use a mat, net and your smart device, you will need a quality mat.

The Mevo and Mevo Plus are two products on the market that have provided an opportunity for golfers to get started in that 500 to 2000 dollar range.

The golf mat is an important part of any indoor practice setup!

Best Golf Mat For Mevo Plus

The top recommended mats are the Real Country Club Elite, Fiberbuilt Launch Monitor Studio Golf Mat, and the True Strike Double Golf Hitting mat.  All three provide the quality and durability needed to keep your body from being sore and to keep you from buying a mat too often.

Factors to Consider When Buying A Golf Mat

  • Durability
  • Feel
  • Real Tee?
  • Size

Durability

If you are going to be using your golf mat frequently and why wouldn’t you if you owned a Mevo, Mevo Plus or a SkyTrak, then you are going to want to make the investment worth it and purchase a golf mat that will last a while.  On my golf mat, I use it close to 300 days out of the year.

Are Launch Monitors Worth It: 7 Reasons to Buy One!

Even during the golf season, I use my simulator setup to ensure my game is sharp and to work on any weaknesses my game may have at the time.  Durability is important to me because I don’t want to be buying a golf mat every year.

One factor that influences the overall longevity of the mat is the size of the mat as well.  I went with the double sized mat at 4’ x 10’ and have been able to use different portions of the mat during my golf simulator rounds.

Feel

If you are going to invest the money into a quality product like the Mevo Plus, then you need a quality feel when hitting the ball.  Not only does the feel make it more realistic, but you don’t want the mat to be so hard it is difficult on your body.

Having the proper feel will make the overall experience better and keep you share in the off season and in those practice sessions during the season.  Most fairways I play are soft for the majority of the year, so I sought a soft mat that would be easy on the body and provide a real feel.

Why Build A Golf Simulator?

Real Tee

This was important to me.  I hate those driving range tees and wanted something I can use an actual tee with.  The golf mats listed above all have the ability to use a regular golf tee.

While you may need to buy the shorter tees, depending on your preferred driver height, the ability to use a tee is a feature I would recommend.  One of the goals of any setup is to make it as realistic as possible.  This is where the feel and the real tee become important.

Size

The overall size of the mat impacts the ability to play left handed and right handed at the same time in a golf simulator setup and also adds to the durability and longevity of the mat.

The larger the mat the more stable the mat is and keeps it from sliding around.  While a 4’ x 5’ would be sufficient if you are hitting into a net, I would recommend the larger 4’ x 9’ or larger for a golf simulator setup if that is how you are going to use your Mevo Plus.

What size golf mat do I need: Complete Overview

All of these factors play a part in deciding on which mat you are going to select.  All three mats recommended above have received high reviews from the many people that have used them.  Within my golfing circle of friends, I have been able to use all three mats and have found them to be quality in these categories above.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the quality of the mat and the launch monitor can bring about a realistic feel to the game and your off season.  Nobody wants to sit around and stare out the window at the snow or the cold weather.

Get active and improve your game!  I would recommend the formula below if you want to take your game to the next level during the off season and have great access to a practice facility during your season!
