The great news about the golf world today is that there is plenty of information out there.
The bad news about the golf world today is that it can be difficult to determine what is best for your game.
We have all heard or read some of the traditional teachings of the past:
- Move off the ball
- Resist with the lower body
- Keep your head down
- Swing slowly
- Roll your wrist through the shot
- Keep your feet and legs quiet
- Keep your left heel down
- Pull down from the top
- All you need is a pitching wedge for the short game
- You can’t swing faster
Most of us with great intentions followed the top teachers on the television or the major golf publications thinking that we were being fed information about the golf swing that would be helpful.
For years, golfers tried to build the X Factor or create more lag in the swing. Monte Scheinblum, the creator of the video series Broomforce, also got caught up in trying to pull from the top to create lag. As a result, he spent years fighting the block to the right.
In reality, all we needed aws possibly something as simple as the lessons in the Broomforce video series.
Top 5 Things We Like About Broomforce by Monte Scheinblum
- Simple and Easy to Understand
- 7 Easy to use drills
- Drill and then Swing
- Easy application
- Solves two common swing issues
#1: Simple and easy to understand
Any video series should be simple and easy to understand. Most golfers want to start to see some positive gains as early as their first training session. While not always reasonable, many amateurs golfers don’t have 8 hours a day to spend working on their game.
Also, many golfers are tired of trying to chase certain positions. Monte keeps it simple and provides the rationale, the swing issues the majority of golfers face, and 7 drills to help improve your overall golf motion.
Every time you watch Monte instruction, you realize some of the instruction of the past is flawed.
#2: 7 easy to use drills
The drills are all easy to use and many of them could be completed in a basement or garage, as long as you use a wiffle ball. The drills don’t involve full swings most of hte time and are more about building the motion vs seeing where the ball flies to. Where the ball flies or even if you chunk, shank or top it, doesn’t really matter. The key is the motion and the movements involved.
#3: Drill and then swing
What I appreciate the most is the advice to complete a drill 2-3 times and then take an actual swing. It might takes months to full egrain a swing motion into your actually swing, but the golfer starts to work on the full swing with it mixed in within the drills.
This helps the golfer continue to play golf while working on their swing. Many golfers don’t want to stop playing for even 1-2 months to imrpove their swing because they enjoy the game too much, but still want to get better
If you fall into this category then Broomforce might be right for you!
#4: Easy application
The thought or main point of the video series is making a motion similar to as if you were sweeping dirt off of the spot where the ball is. You wouldn’t karate chop down with a broom and you should with a club either when hitting the golf ball.
The easy application is the connection between the real world movement of using a broom to sweep and the application to the golf swing. If you are out on the course struggling, you could make some of the movements that are found in the 7 drills to try to get your swing on track.
Justin Thomas and Justin Rose use one of the drills quite often and Justin Rose can be seen making a similar movement before just about every shot he hits on the course.
#5: Solve two common swing issues
One of the barriers to any video lesson is whether the instruction applies to your game. Monte claims that many of the swing issues in the game of golf center around a golfer getting out of sequence. Either their lower body moves too fast and the arms get stuck behind or the shoulders and arms fly out and cause an over the top motion.
By using the 7 drills, the golfer is able to engrain and fix one of the two most common issues in the game of golf.
Other Post about Monte:
My Experience
From the first time I used the drills, I had one of my best practice sessions followed by a solid round of golf. My number one swing issue is the body moving too fast, too early and then stalling when it gets out front. The end result is some flipping with my hands and fighting an overdraw or hook one the days when I can’t time it just right.
I used several of the drills mixed in with some real shots on my golf simulator and then had one of my best rounds of the offseason on my golf simulator. I hit the driver straight with very little overcure and had great control through the hitting zone.
The motion created through this broomforce concept leaves you feeling like you are in the hitting zone for a long time with quality clubface control. There is very little feeling of flipping or having to hit the ball/ground just perfectly for a quality shot.
Quick Story
My 9 year old son was playing a round with me on the simulator and he was struggling with being steep into the ball, hitting a push fade. I gave him an example that there was a piece of dirt on the ground and he was holding a broom. I then asked how he would swing.
He gave a sweeping like motion in his practice swing and then hit some of his best shots ever with my constant reminder of sweeping the dirt. Kids are amazing at quickly adapting. His swing started to look great and he beat his low score for 9 holes by 9 shots on the next round we played.
Who could benefit?
Most golfers could benefit from this video series by Monte. He is a great communicator, has played at high levels and understands how to generate speed.
He believes that increasing speed doesn’t have to come at the expense of accuracy. He is a brilliant mind in the game of golf and we are fortunate to have access to his latest learning and thinking at a reasonable cost.
If you are someone that comes over the top, gets stuck or struggles with a flipping motion, then Broomforce can help your game!
Would you recommend Broomforce?
Yes, especially at the cost that Monte charges. The video has great content, is professionally produced and doesn’t bog you down with 20 different swing thoughts.
My Secret To Golf Improvement
Let’s face it, in order to get really good at golf, we must practice frequently. About three years ago, I made the leap and invested in a golf simulator build for my garage. I went with a SkyTrak Launch Monitor and the TGC software and can now play over 100,000 courses including Augusta, Pebble Beach, Bethpage Black, Whistling Straits. St. Andrews and many other of the top 100 courses in the world.
This golf simulator setup, which is more affordable that you might imagine, has been a game changer. I can now play golf everyday of the year regardless of rain, snow, cold weather or time of day. I can practice or play rounds of golf. I can stand in the 11th fairway at Augusta and with the auto-rewind feature I am able to practice my approach shots from various differences.
