How To Use Skytrak To Improve (Top 5)

The golfer will want to take advantage of the following features:

  1. The ability to play plenty of golf
  2. The ability to practice specific shots on a golf course
  3. The opportunity to analyze the data after every shot
  4. The ability to practice 5-7 days per week
  5. The opportunity to map your bag

Golf is a ton of fun!

Unfortunately, for many of us, we live in a location where we cannot play golf 365 days a year!

Unless of course, you own a golf simulator similar to the Skytrak!

Then the possibilities are endless and the opportunity for game improvement and lowering your score is right there for the taking.

I purchased my simulator over 5 years ago now and have played 1000 rounds of golf on the combination of my Skytrak Simulator and The Golf Club (TGC) software.

The combination of the two provides a realistic experience, where a golfer can improve with the right tips!

How To Use Skytrak To Improve?

My Journey: I purchased my Skytrak in July of 2017 at the time of writing this update it is December of 2022. My average score has improved from 75-80 on average to 67-75 on average. This level of drop at this point in my journey has been mainly due to the access to year round golf with my Skytrak Golf Simulator Setup in my garage. The biggest areas of game improvement have been additional speed, quality of contact, dialing in my wedges and overall game management. I can plot my way around a course because I know my swing and own my swing!

No longer does the golfer have to worry about the rain, snow, time of day or how crowded or expensive the local golf course might be that day.  The golfer has the perfect setup in their house or garage to get a quick 30-40 minutes of work in daily or spend hours playing some of the best golf courses in the world: Augusta, Pebble Beach, Whistling Straits, Bethpage Black, etc.

For the golfer without easy access or access to difficult enough courses, the Skytrak and TGC combination opens up plenty of access to take your game to the next level!

Best time of the day! Time to play and unwind from a crazy day!

#1: The ability to play plenty of golf

If you want to get better at golf, you must play more often.  Only playing 20-30 rounds per season is going to keep you from getting better.  Many golfers play at the same level of golf for many years, never really finding a way to get better.

There is a reason many of the best junior golfers come from the southern states in the United States.  They can play year round and continue to improve through a given year vs putting the clubs away and not doing any golf related activity for 3-5 months.

While there might be barriers like swing issues or club issues, I believe the number 1 issue is the pure amount of golf that they actually play.

The Skytrak and TGC combination gives the golfer 365, 24/7 hour access to playing the best courses in the world, from the comfort of your own home.  Playing frequently helps in several years:

  • Your ball striking will improve
  • Your ability to manage your way around a golf course improves

When you combine these two, you will get better ball striking and better score.  What a powerful combination.

I have found that the rounds at the beginning and end of the season are usually better from being able to practice, even if for 30 minutes a day, and staying sharp throughout a winter or when I don’t get out on the course as much due to work and family obligations.

Play this incredible hole on auto-rewind!

#2: The ability to practice specific shots on a golf course

Many golfers will head to the driving range and hit 7 iron after 7 iron and work on what is considered block practice or they will hit 10 drivers in a row.  Now imagine the following:

  • Hitting a 7 iron over and over again on the 6th hole at Augusta.
  • Hitting a 9 iron on the 12th hole at Augusta.
  • Hitting a driver on the 18th hole at Pebble Beach.
  • Hitting a wedge on the 17th hole at TPC sawgrass.
  • Hitting a long iron into the par 3 17th hole at Whistling Straits.

What do you think is better practice?

With the auto-rewind feature in TGC, you can get to the right spot on the course and work on these specific shots!

I will take the visual and the feedback from the block practice hitting an actual shot.  I have been able to make great gains with my driver from speed training with SuperSpeed Golf and hitting some of the most difficult driver shots on courses throughout the world!

If you have 30 minutes a day, you can dial in your driver and figure out your wedges.  THe possibilities are endless!

Find an island green like #17 at TPC Sawgrass and challenge your wedge game!

#3: The opportunity to analyze the data after every shot

After every shot you have access to the following data:

  • Carry and Total Distance
  • Swing Speed and Ball Speed
  • Spin Rate
  • Spin Axis
  • Launch Angle
  • Swing Path

While this data might take time to understand, it is somewhat simple to read.  The spin rate and spin axis are two numbers I pay close attention to.  For years, I played golf with too much draw spin, but have been able to reduce the spin axis and keep the ball flight more neutral with a slight draw or slight fade depending on the shape of the golf hole.

Play tough courses. There are plenty to challenge your game!

#4: The ability to practice 5-7 days per week

To play a round of golf, it will more than likely take close to 4 hours.  What if you could play 36 holes in 90 minutes?  On the golf simulator I can play a 18 hole round of golf in 45 minutes.  I can get 3 to 4 times the amount of work in a 4 hour time frame vs playing on the course.

While I love to play golf in the outdoor setting, the indoor setting in a simulator setup can be great preparation for an upcoming tournament or a round where you really want to play well.

Building the confidence in certain shots can help you reach new levels when you play on that next big round.

Since the golf simulator is in your home more than likely, a quick 30-40 minute round of auto-rewind practice can make a difference and keep you going 365 days a year.

Track your data and monitor your progress!

#5:The opportunity to map your bag

Knowing how far you hit a club is vital to your overall success.  With Skytrak, you can map your bag and create a shot chart like the one below.

This might be the most important information you can use to help you play quality golf.  I have heard so many stories and have seen it first hand where golfers completely over estimate how far they hit each iron.

They hit one 7 iron 165 yards one time and think this is their carry distance.  So they step up to a 165 yard shot, hit the 7 iron and end up in a bunker.  They blade it out of the bunker and are looking at a double bogey as their reality.  Instead, if they had the right club and hit the 6 iron, their chance of hitting the middle of the green would increase greatly!

I would highly recommend each golfer create a distance chart like the sample below:

My Secret To Golf Improvement

Let’s face it, in order to get really good at golf, we must practice frequently.  About five years ago, I made the leap and invested in a golf simulator build for my garage.  I went with a SkyTrak Launch Monitor and the TGC software and can now play over 100,000 courses including Augusta, Pebble Beach, Bethpage Black, Whistling Straits. St. Andrews and many other of the top 100 courses in the world.

This golf simulator setup, which is more affordable that you might imagine, has been a game changer.  I can now play golf everyday of the year regardless of rain, snow, cold weather or time of day.  I can practice or play rounds of golf.  I can stand in the 11th fairway at Augusta and with the auto-rewind feature I am able to practice my approach shots from various differences.

It is worth checking out through Rain or Shine Golf as they offer some incredible packages along with financing offers that are difficult to beat.
