How Fast Does A Golf Ball Travel?

The maximum speed for the long drive competitors is in the 210’s, the average amateur golfer will have a golf ball speed in the 150’s, with the PGA Tour Pros hitting the ball somewhere between 160-190 miles per hour.

In the game of golf, speed is vital to playing quality golf.  If someone is simply out for fun and recreational reasons, hitting the ball long and far can still bring a ton of fun, but is not essential.

For the more serious golfer, typically the faster the golf ball travels, means the higher the swing speed, which can help a golfer reach his or her full potential.

Let’s face it, the further we can hit the ball the more fun the game is and the probability of shooting lower scores increases.  Measure yourself against the information found below to see if you are in the top 20%, somewhere in the middle or maybe even in the bottom 20%

Regardless of where you are at, we want to help you increase your golf ball speed and provide some tips to help you achieve this goal!

Bryson DeChambeua has been often talked about due his ball speed in the 190’s with the driver.  While he maintains some of the highest ball speeds on tour, the long drive competitors can get their ball speed into the 200’s and absolutely swing at speeds that 99.9% of people cannot not even begin to dream of.

How You Can Create Greater Swing Speeds, Resulting in a Greater Ball Speeds – 3 Tips!

Tip 1: My number one recommendation is to increase swing speed, resulting in higher ball speeds through over speed training through SuperSpeed golf.  The protocols are simple to follow and only take 10-15 minutes, 3 days a week.

The key here is that you are training your mind and body to be able to swing faster.  Did you know that your body will only swing as fast as your mind will let it?

Your brain will not allow to swing faster if it doesn’t feel you can maintain balance and stop the swing safely.  You must train your brain to swing faster along with your muscles.

Golf is a game of power and now is the time to find a way to gain more speed.  Stop being the shortest hitter in your group and embrace your inner Bryson DeChambeua without hitting the gym for 2-3 hours a day and drinking 5 protein drinks a day.

Work smarter, not harder and get the 5-8% increase in swing speed that will help your game greatly!

So how does the SuperSpeed System work?

The system is built on 3 swing speed clubs that have different weights.  The green swing speed club weights 10% less than the typical driver.  The blue swing speed club weights 5% less than the typical driver and the red club weights 5% heavier.

This combination of clubs helps provide the over speed and strength training to increase swing speed over time.  By increasing swing speed you will see great ball speeds and your drives will be going further.

You can expect to see an initial 5-8% increase in swing speeds after the initial training.  If you continue on with the training, after 30 days these swing speeds will be more permanent.  You can expect another 1-2% jump at different times throughout the training.

I have experienced a jump of between 4-9 miles per hour.  My average swing speed used to be around 98 miles per hour.  I now swing between 102 and 108 miles per hour.  My dries now travel closer to 275 to 280 on my best drives and I can hit an 8 iron around 155 yards with a comfortable swing.

As I get closer to age 40, the need to actually train for speed remains important and I now work this into my normal golf routine.  I have played a ton of golf over the past 3 years, since I purchased and built a golf simulator in my garage.

Tip 2: Make sure you are playing with the right equipment.  This often starts with making sure you have the proper flexed shaft.  Not having the proper driver will not only take distance away form you, but it could make it more difficult to find that consistency that we all crave.

Make sure you go and at a minimum hit the driver at a simulator at a local retail store.

Things to watch for are club speed, ball speed and spin rate.  Spin rate is so vital when talking about distance.  Did you know that your spin rate for most amateurs should be in the 2,000 to 3,000 range?

If you are spinning your driver at the 4,000 RPM rate you are losing 20-30 yards.  Have you ever hit that shot that seems to balloon and go nowhere?  That is a result of too much spin with your drive.  While this can be somewhat blamed on the swing, sometimes it has to do with the equipment as well.

Tip 3: Make sure you check out our post on increasing swing speed overall.  There are other options including getting yourself in physical shape, working out and other tempo training that helps you biome a more efficient swinger of the golf club!
