I upgraded to a Skytrak Plus after playing with my original Skytrak since 2017.

Over the past 6 years, I have played over 1,200 rounds of golf between my Skytrak and the TGC software that I first started playing in July of 2017.

The residential golf simulator has helped me reach the scratch level in golf.  My average score improved from 76-80 to between 68-74.  Golf has never been more fun and rewarding and the access to golf year round is truly a game changer!~

Golf simulators have revolutionized the way golfers practice and improve their game. With advancements in technology, golfers can now enjoy the benefits of a realistic at-home golf experience without breaking the bank. Two popular options in the market are the SkyTrak and its upgraded version, the SkyTrak+. I

n this comprehensive comparison, we will explore the key features, improvements, and overall performance of these two golf simulators. Whether you are a casual golfer or a dedicated player looking to take your game to the next level, this article will help you make an informed decision.

1. Introduction to SkyTrak and SkyTrak+

The original SkyTrak was introduced in 2014 and quickly became a game-changer in the at-home golf simulator market. It offered golfers an affordable solution with accurate ball and club data measurement, making it a popular choice among golf enthusiasts. However, with advancements in technology and user feedback Skytrak decided to take the simulator to the next level with the introduction of the SkyTrak+.

The SkyTrak+ builds upon the strengths of its predecessor and introduces significant improvements. It incorporates a dual Doppler radar system and proprietary machine learning algorithms to enhance accuracy and provide valuable club data. Additionally, the SkyTrak+ features an improved photometric camera system, larger hitting area, and updated software for a more comprehensive and immersive golfing experience.

Further Insight: The original Skytrak provided many years of some impressive and fun golf in my golf simulator setup. I am looking forward to the improved technology and the ability to continue to have fun with an even better experience. There were some flaws with the Skytrak that many of us were able to overlook because of the great price. Now, we can take our experience to the next level at still a quality price.

2. Club Data Measurement

One of the major enhancements in the SkyTrak+ is the inclusion of a dual Doppler radar system for club data measurement. This addition allows golfers to access vital information about their swing, such as club head speed, club path, face angle, and smash factor. These data points were previously only available on high-end, professional-grade launch monitors, making the SkyTrak+ an exceptional value for its price range.

The original SkyTrak also provided accurate club data, but the SkyTrak+ takes it to a whole new level. The dual Doppler radar system, coupled with proprietary machine learning algorithms, delivers precision that rivals the most expensive launch monitors on the market. By analyzing the data received from the radar system, golfers can gain valuable insights into their swing mechanics and make informed adjustments to improve their performance.

Further Insight: My favorite feature of a golf launch monitor is being able to play courses. We will continue to get great data after every shot wit the ability to practice and collect full data if you believe that can take your game to the next level.

3. Ball Data Measurement and Accuracy

Both the SkyTrak and SkyTrak+ utilize a camera-based photometric system for ball data measurement. This system tracks the ball’s launch, spin, and tilt axis to provide accurate and reliable data. However, the SkyTrak+ introduces improvements to the photometric camera system, resulting in enhanced accuracy and consistency.

The improved camera system in the SkyTrak+ ensures that golfers receive highly accurate ball tracking data. This data is crucial for analyzing shot performance, understanding ball flight characteristics, and making adjustments to improve accuracy and distance control. Whether you are practicing indoors or on the range, the SkyTrak+ provides reliable and precise ball data that can help you refine your game.

Further Insight: I always felt the results were really accurate with the SkyTrak and look forward to even more advancements in technology to provide commercial level results. My ability to dial in my distances has been a key to taking my game to the scratch level!

Both the SkyTrak and SkyTrak+ come with user-friendly software that offers a range of features to enhance your practice sessions and gameplay. The software allows you to view and analyze your shot data, track progress, and even play virtual golf on some of the world’s most famous courses. Let’s explore the key usability and software features of these golf simulators.

The Shot Optimizer provides a color-coded scoring system, with green indicating shots within the optimal range, yellow for shots just outside the range, and red for shots significantly outside the range. This feature helps golfers understand how their numbers compare to those of professional players and identify areas for improvement.

Additionally, the SkyTrak+ introduces Shot Score, a unique feature that objectively measures a golfer’s performance. The Shot Score is generated after hitting 20 shots with a specific club and compares the golfer’s performance to shots from players of various skill levels. This scoring system offers a benchmark for improvement and allows golfers to track their progress over time.

4.2 Practice and Improvement Features

Both the SkyTrak and SkyTrak+ offer a range of practice and improvement features to help golfers refine their skills. These features include driving range practice, skills assessment, bag mapping, random practice sessions, and wedge matrix. The driving range practice mode allows golfers to hit shots and analyze their data, while the skills assessment provides an in-depth analysis of a golfer’s strengths and weaknesses. Bag mapping helps golfers understand their club distances and dispersions, while the random practice sessions and wedge matrix offer variety and target specific areas of the game.
